1. Laboratory Size & Capacity
• Should accommodate 50 students per batch (for a 150-seat MBBS college, three batches are required).
• Minimum area: 1500–2000 sq. ft.
• Well-ventilated, well-lit, and with proper safety measures.

Microscopy & Basic Equipment
• 50+ Binocular Microscopes (one per student).
• 1-2 Teaching Microscopes with projection capabilities.
• Glass Slides, Cover Slips, and Staining Racks for bacterial, fungal, and parasitic staining.
Culture & Incubation
• Bacteriological Incubator for microbial growth.
• Laminar Air Flow (Biosafety Cabinet) for aseptic work.
• Anaerobic Jar for anaerobic bacterial cultures.
• Refrigerator (4°C) & Deep Freezer (-20°C) for media and sample storage.
Sterilization & Disinfection
• Autoclave & Hot Air Oven for sterilization.
• Spirit Lamps & Bunsen Burners for flame sterilization.
• Disinfectant Solutions & Handwashing Stations for biosafety.
Media Preparation & Staining
• Culture Media (Nutrient Agar, MacConkey, Blood Agar, etc.).
• Gram Staining & Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) Staining Kits.

5. Practical Exercises for MBBS Students
• Microscopy: Identification of bacteria, fungi, and parasites.
• Staining Techniques: Gram staining, Acid-fast staining (AFB), etc.
• Culture Techniques: Streak plate method, antibiotic sensitivity testing.
• Serological Tests: Widal, VDRL, ELISA, Rapid antigen tests.
• Hand Hygiene & Aseptic Techniques: Infection control practices.
• Vaccinations are administered according to the National Immunization
Schedule and the Indian Academy of Paediatrics Immunization Schedule.
• OPV 0, Hepatitis B, and BCG are provided within 24 hours of birth.
• Actively involved in the implementation of the Measles-Rubella (MR)
vaccination campaign.

Note: CPAP machine, Mechanical Ventilator, Radiant Warmer, Phototherapy unit, Pulse oximeters, Multipara monitors, are required in proportion to Neonatal and Pediatric ICU bed capacity. Phototherapy unit should preferably be double surface. NICU should preferably have Transcutaneous Bilirubinometer.
Oxygen supply should be from central pipeline through manifold gas supply system, liquid oxygen supply, suction should be through wall mount supply system. Essential equipment should be according to age of the children i.e. neonate/infant/toddler/children.
