MAHARASHTRA UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES, NASHIK
Brief History:
In a visionary move to transform the landscape of health sciences education in Maharashtra, the Government of Maharashtra established the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) on 3rd June 1998 under the MUHS Act, 1998. The University was conceived to bring all health science education under a unified, structured, and progressive framework - ensuring academic excellence, uniformity in curricula, and the promotion of high-impact research across disciplines.
MUHS was initially housed at Gangapur Road, Nashik, and later shifted in 2004 to its expansive and purpose-built campus at Mhasrul, Dindori Road, Nashik, marking the beginning of a new era in health sciences governance and academic leadership.
As a teaching and affiliating University, MUHS today stands as a pillar of healthcare education, overseeing more than 400 affiliated institutions across the state. It integrates the richness of both modern medicine and the Indian systems of medicine, cultivating a generation of healthcare professionals committed to excellence, ethics, and service.
With a clear strategic vision, MUHS is not only shaping the future of medical education in Maharashtra but also contributing significantly to the nation's health system. Its unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, and inclusivity continues to uplift the standards of health sciences education, research, and practice-ensuring healthier futures for generations to come.
1) Objectives :-
As per MUHS Act 1998, u/s 4, the objectives of the University are;
- to carry out its responsibility of creation, preservation and dissemination of knowledge.
- to promote discipline and the spirit of intellectual inquiry and to dedicate itself as a fearless academic community to the sustained pursuit of excellence.
- to encourage individuality and diversity within a climate of tolerance and mutual understanding.
- to promote freedom, secularism, equality and social justice as enshrined in the Constitution of India and to be a catalyst in socio-economic transformation by promoting basic attitudes and values of essence to national development. - 2-
- to extend the benefits of knowledge and skills for the development of individuals and society by associating the University closely with local and regional problems of development.
- to carry out social responsibility as an informed and objective critic, to identify and cultivate talent, to train the right kind of leadership in all walks of life and to help younger generation to develop right attitudes interests and values.
- to promote equitable distribution of facilities of Health Sciences education.
- to provide for efficient and responsive administration, scientific management and develop organization of teaching and research.
- to promote acquisition of knowledge in rapidly developing and changing society and to continually offer opportunities of upgrading knowledge, training; and skills in the context of innovations, research and discovery in all fields of human endeavor by developing educational network related to Health Sciences with use of modern communication media and technologies appropriate for a learning society.
- to strive to promote competitive merit and excellence as the sole guiding criterion in all academic and other matters relating to students.
- to impart education and training to achieve the goal of physical, mental, and spiritual health of every individual.
- to create a better understanding between different systems of medicines through interdisciplinary study and research.
- to establish and develop Indian Systems or Medicine so as to keep he of a healthy individual and to cure the disease or diseased individual.
2) Mission statement: -
Dissemination, creation, preservation of knowledge and understanding through teaching, research, extension, and service, as well as the effective demonstration and influence of its corporate life on society, in general, with specific objectives as provided in the MUHS Act, 1998.
